5.10.07 Plaza.fi announce intelligent ad network with Leiki

Leiki has delivered to United Magazines the first intelligent advertising system in the market that understands natural language. The ad network is based on the Leiki Focus personalisation engine which allows matching of different types of content, such as editorial articles, user conversations and advertisements, with a very detailed ontological analysis of content topics. As a result, items that cover similar topics are matched automatically even if they do not have the same keyword, and the user is offered a wider and more interesting content by selection of other similar articles.

The first text ads targeted with the Leiki Focus appear on the Plaza.fi website, one of Finland's largest portals. This is to be followed with other United Magazines' web services, such as magazine websites and classifieds sites. Picture ads can also be used in the future. TopicSpace, an intelligent 3D information visualisation tool, was unveiled today at the CeBIT exhibition in Hannover. Plaza.fi, a leading Finnish portal, has unveiled an innovative feature that is a world's first for web portals: Automatic linking of content based on ontological analysis. The dynamic matching of external and internal content is powered by Leiki Focus personalisation engine. Editorial content on the Plaza.fi site is linked in real time with the most similar user-generated intra-portal content, external news sources, blogs and Wikipedia articles. 19.2.07 Leiki among final twenty companies for the European ICT Prize

Leiki was announced today as one of the 20 finalists for the European ICT Prize, one of Europe's most coveted technology prizes. A total of EUR 700.000 in prize money will be handed out to the winning candidates. The Prize is awarded to companies for new and imaginative products and services based on digital technologies. It is supported by the European Commission as a part of its efforts to promote Europe's ICT industry and boost growth.

Leiki has been selected as a Nominee for the 2007 European ICT Prize, the most prestigious prize for innovative products and services in the field of Information Society Technologies. The European ICT Prize is organised by Euro-CASE, the European Council of Applied Sciences, Technologies and Engineering, with the sponsorship of the ICT Programme of the European Commission. A record number of 450 applications from 30 countries were sent for the Prize this year and the proposals were evaluated by independent experts from 16 European countries. 8.1.07 Leiki and FT launch new Mobile News Reader

Leiki and the Financial Times have today launched the FT Mobile News Reader, a free application that gives FT.com users access to FT content whilst on the move via their mobile phones and PDAs. With Leiki's adaptive personalisation technology the service will learn the users' interests from what they read and deliver relevant content into the personalised 'My FT' section. FT Mobile News Reader also allows users to look up stock prices, access premium content if they are subscribers, and load stories onto their phone or PDA for reading when a mobile signal is unavailable. The software is compatible with nearly all types of mobile phones including Nokia, BlackBerry and Motorola handsets, adjusting automatically to different mobile screen sizes and device configurations. On the latest issue of Qpass newsletter Leiki CEO Petrus Pennanen is interviewed on the role of personalisation in increasing the uptake of services by mobile operators and content portals. Pennanen accounts that personalisation indeed provides demonstrable commercial advantages, such as increased ARPU. "To be genuinely useful and valuable content has to be relevant to the user. This is especially important on screens with limited real estate." In terms of mobile search, it's vital to move beyond key word search to offer intelligent search capabilities. Leiki has implemented a Chinese news application for Sina.com, a leading online media company in China. The news application is an advanced implementation for Symbian platform. It combines more than a dozen news feeds from Sina.com, an index menu, a personalised 'my news' view and an integrated ticker. The Sina.com application is Leiki's first implementation for the Chinese market. It is preinstalled on the Nokia 6708 handset and is distributed in the mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. 7.3.06 Leiki Focus used by new real estate service

Leiki personalisation technology is being used in the real estate sector for the first time with Finnish Igglo real estate service. Using all available information about the listed apartments and houses, their location and neighborhood, Leiki's search function allows users to find a match with a natural language search description. Leiki and Flander, a Finnish mobile software testing and development company, have signed a partnership agreement to develop and deliver intelligent mobile applications. Leiki enters new markets with a Virtual Agent Java game. Finnish National Technology Agency (Tekes) released a news item on Leiki personalisation technology spreading into news services. The item talks about Leiki's new mobile news application developed together with Financial Times, Leiki technology and collaboration in the National Technology Agency projects. 7.7.05 Leiki team up with the Financial Times to offer mobile news service

FT.com has teamed up with Leiki to offer a Java news application. The recently launced news service is the Financial Times' first advertising sponsored mobile service and is free to users. The application features 90 latest FT.com articles with pictures, a news index and a personalised area where articles are collected according to user reading behaviour. Later this summer, the Financial Times and Leiki will introduce a premium version of the application that will feature FT content not accessible via the free service. 7.11.03 Leiki technology matches participants of Nokia conference

The Mobile Matchmaker service helps participants at the Nokia Mobile Internet Conference (NMIC) to easily find each other. As in our Leiki Focus for Matchmaking product, the users type in a free text description which is automatically profiled. Instead of dating preferences, the ontology in the NMIC case describes in detail the mobile value chain and the participants' roles.

5.11.03 National Technology Agency funds Leiki R&D

The Finnish Technology Agency (Tekes) has decided to grant funding for Leiki R&D. Leiki has been supported since 2000 by the Agency for two previous R&D projects in the USIX program. The focus of the current project in the FENIX program is on implementation of new technologies for the Leiki Targeting engine. The aim is to further enhance our competitive advantage by improving personalisation of future content services and integration with emerging ontology standards. A significant part of the project is continuing co-operation with leading research institutions such as Universities of Helsinki and Oulu and the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology

Two new patent applications on significant technological advances in Leiki Targeting and Virtual Agent products have been filed. The SmartRotuaari system has been organised by University of Oulu, City of Oulu, Mobile Forum, several local businesses and mobile developers.
